I wouldn't expect the non DJ's to understand the DJ game. We are the ones that break the records on the radios, in the clubs, not just the mixtapes. We are the ones giving the feedback to the labels, which makes them want to put out certain songs or artist to begin with. As for me, I get all my music directly from the record labels, all of my mixtapes get cleared from these same record labels. There is a right and wrong way to do this. It's not just as easy as downloading songs off the internet and slapping them on a CD, as stated before. Yeah, you could do that, but that's not how you go about doing it the correct way. Us DJ's put a lot of grind in for these artist without no kickbacks. All of my mixtapes are free, I like helping these artist get more promotion. It makes me feel like I'm doing my part for the industry. I like doing parties, I love to see the crowd go crazy when "their" song comes on in the club. I also enjoy helping underground/unsigned artist get some well deserved shine. I wouldn't go as far as leaking Wayne's album, but I know I haven't played a Wayne song since. There is a lot of artist I don't play. But, that is my personal choice. Every DJ has artist they don't play or support. We don't have to support every artist that drops. Also, as a side note, I never charge any artist to play their music or to get on a mixtape. And you can never pay me to get a song on one of my mixtapes either. If your shit wack then no amount of money can get it on my mixtapes. My name is attached to the mixtape and I don't want to be known for having bullshit on my CD's. If your hot, then your on there, point blank. Say what you want about Chuck T or Lil Wayne, but the music business needs DJ's, 1) It's a form of free promotion, 2) who else is gonna spin that shit in the clubs, radios, mix shows?
