so true. why do people hate on Jay-Z so much? The man has done so much as far as hip-hop is concerned. His name is mentioned up there with Biggie and Tupac - he's a living legend. Sure, he's not the greatest ... but ask yourself - what qualifies as the 'greatest'? What criteria is set for these MC's to match them against one another? You can't say the criteria is set by the ones who paved the way for Hip-Hop to get to this level - because I can tell you right now that none of them would even call what we listen to "Hip-Hop" anymore. What Hip-Hop USED to be was a bunch of innovators coming together and telling a story - speaking what was on their mind, without having to worry what the man next to them was going to say about their flow. Nowadays, an MC can't get two words out without having a hater blast him and criticize him (or her) for a certain way they delivered their message. Who all watched the BET Hip Hop Awards? I wish I could've but I can't because I'm in Iraq right now, but I did YouTube 'The Cypher' Sessions they had. THAT is what Hip-Hop needs to go back to!!! You had Eminem, Mos Def and Black Thought going at it back to back like it was nothing! It's THAT easy for us to come together and just celebrate our contribution to the community. When did it become about choosing sides? When did it become about "I rep the dirrty dirrty" or "It ain't hip-hop if it ain't from the West Coast"? Who the hell cares??? I envy the days when guys used to sit around and just go in on a simple boom bap beat and be appreciated for his attempt. Sure, there are people in this Hip-Hop industry that I feel are absolutely horrendous, but I don't hate on them you know why? Because there's other people that love their music - and I respect that. Hip-hop has lost so much respect from outsiders (those who are not well-versed in hip-hop), because the lifestyle has become a joke through their eyes. What other genre (i.e. rock, dance, pop, etc.) hates on each other the way hip-hop does?
