50 Cent Album To Miss #1 Spot PDF Print E-mail

50 Cent’s recent extracurricular activities involving Rick Ross’ family and baiting fellow mogul Jay-Z will fall short of pushing another #1 debut, as Before I Self Destruct is projected to sell 160,000 copies.

According to sales projection site hitsdailydouble.com, the G Unit CEO latest project will land behind chart topper John Mayer’s new LP Battle Studies (projected to push 275,000-300,000) and possibly albums from songstress Norah Jones, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, and Christian band Casting Crowns.

Before I Self-Destruct has been plagued by numerous pushbacks over the last year. Since an initial release announcement in February 2008, 50 has released 4 singles, including 2 that did not make the final tracklisting: “Get Up,” “I Get It In,” “Ok, You’re Right,” and “Baby By Me.”

Additionally, the album leaked a whole month early on October, prompting the Queens native to push up the release date from November 23 to November 16 after gauging positive feedback from fans.

If the projected numbers hold, Before I Self-Destruct will be 50 Cent’s lowest debut week, following 2007’s Curtis (695,000), 2003’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (872,000), and 2005’s The Massacre (1.5 million). Because the album hit iTunes a week early, those digital sales will be added to the rapper’s total tally.

To date, the latest single “Baby By Me” has peaked at #28 on Billboard’s Top 100.

At press time, the mogul’s next single will be “Get It Hot,” featuring Lloyd Banks.

Well, I know the haters are going to love this bit of news lol! But at the end of the day, hate him or love him, you gotta admit that 50 did a good job with this album. It's not his best work ever, and I don't think it tops Get Rich Or Die Tryin' like 50 was claiming, but he was definitely back in top form with this one. Some of the nicest flows I've heard from 50 since his recent mixtapes. 50 is definitely not as popular as he was a couple of years ago, and the fact that he didn't have a hit single affected his sales, but in my opinion the album is blazing and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

Okay, The amount of copies an artist sells does not net how good or bad their album is. Though most people up here are hip-hop fans (or at least posers) country music is more popular, popular music is more popular, rock, punk and many other genres of music. Hip-HOp music goes up against a lot of different music genres, and contrary to what people may think, most of the people that listen to Hip-hop music are Black/African/Brown/Latino-(minority). When you break it down to minority groups, most people that actually buy the music are females, and teenagers, who really are looking for the commercial stuff or great production. Personally, I think that Before I Self-Destruct is his best album to date. I don't think that you can compare anybody's first album to the rest of their albums. Everyone's first album tells a story about how they got to where they are, but truthfully you can only tell your story once. So excluding Get Rich or Die Trying, 50 did a superb ob on this album. Lyrically it's great, the production is on point, and it lacks bubble gum, like Massacre has and it wasn't full of features like Curtis. Blueprint 3 may sell more than Before I self-destruct but personally I think that BISD is a much better constructed album. I haven't been able to put 50's album down since I downloaded the copy, and I can't even bring myself to listen to Blueprint 3 all the way through.
